Event Overview
Grit and a growth mindset are two common traits among highly successful women lawyers. On Wednesday 9 June from 15:00 to 16:30 CEST, the next AIJA Women Network (AWN) webinar will be based on the Grit Project developed by the American Bar Association Commission on Women in the Profession.
The research shows that:
- Grit is a precursor to success rather than an outcome of it.
- A growth mindset can help navigate challenging workplace situations, including responses to negative feedback and sometimes overwhelming pace and volume of work.
- Grittier individuals are hard workers and are more likely to strive towards enhancing their performance.
- Such individuals are more likely to “stay the course” and not get distracted by immediate, short-term interests or needs.
- People with a growth mindset can see their abilities as flexible entities that can develop through dedication and effort.
Most experts agree that these traits can be learned and developed given the right conditions.
This session will help participants to assess and develop these traits through a panel discussion followed by a practical workshop.
The session will be moderated by Agata Adamczyk and Kadri Kallas.

Dr. Milana L. Hogan, Chief Legal Talent Officer, Sullivan & Cromwell LLP, United States of America Dr. Milana L. Hogan is the Chief Legal Talent Officer at Sullivan & Cromwell LLP, where she oversees the firm’s talent management initiatives, including assignment, mentoring, training and career development programs, performance evaluations, diversity and inclusion initiatives, human resources, paralegal and analyst programs, and the firm’s worldwide recruiting efforts. In addition to her work at Sullivan & Cromwell LLP, Dr. Hogan is the Chair of the Professional Development Consortium. She also serves as a liaison to the American Bar Association Commission on Women in the Profession and she has been Co‐Chair of the ABA’s Grit Project since its inception. Dr. Hogan recently published her first book, Grit, The Secret to Advancement, on the impact of grit and growth mindset on the success of women lawyers. She received her B.A. in Political Science from Brown University and she holds a Doctor of Education from the University of Pennsylvania. She lives in New Canaan, Connecticut with her husband and their four young children. |

Costanza Posarelli, Associate, Sullivan & Cromwell LLP, United States of America Costanza Posarelli is an Associate in Sullivan & Cromwell’s General Practice group, which she joined in September 2016. She holds a Law Degree (Laurea Magistrale) from LUISS Guido Carli, Rome, and an LLM from Fordham University School of Law, New York. Costanza is admitted to the New York Bar. She has been focusing on various practice areas, including mergers and acquisitions, capital markets and securities laws, and advising clients across a range of industries, including consumer & retail, automotive and financial services.

Anna Chirou, Associate, Sullivan & Cromwell LLP, United Kingdom Anna Chirou is an associate at Sullivan & Cromwell LLP, working in the firm’s general practice group, with experience in finance and restructuring, project finance, mergers and acquisitions and capital markets. Anna joined Sullivan & Cromwell LLP in London as a trainee solicitor in 2015, qualifying as a solicitor in 2017 and has also spent time in Sullivan & Cromwell LLP’s Hong Kong office. She received a Bachelor of Laws from King’s College London, University of London and a Bachelor of Civil Laws from the University of Oxford.

Kadri Kallas, Partner at TGS Baltic, Tallin Kadri Kallas has extensive experience in the areas of commercial and corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, private equity and venture capital. She has advised strategic investors, private equity funds and companies included in their portfolios, as well as venture capital investors and growth companies on strategic investments, joint ventures, mergers, acquisitions and demergers, and provided general business advice. She has also worked for the London office of an international US-based law firm. Reputable international legal market directories, such as Legal500, Chambers Europe, Best Lawyers and IFLR, have recommended Kadri Kallas as a leading expert in her field. Kadri is also a board member at the Estonian Bar Association. |

By registering you have to accept the general terms and conditions and accept that your registration is considered binding immediately, but participation to the event is possible only after full payment of the registration fee.
Please note that any arrangements related to the participation of the participant in an AIJA event, including but not limited to booking or cancellation of accommodation or flights, as well as respecting the cancellation deadlines indicated in the general terms and conditions, are the sole responsibility of the participant. AIJA shall not be held liable for any expenses the participant may suffer as the result of participant’s failure to comply with his/her obligations.
It is recommended for each participant to purchase a cancellation and travel insurance.
Please note that in-house counsel registrations are subject to review and confirmation by AIJA. AIJA considers in-house counsel professionals who hold a university degree in law allowing access to a bar association and practicing law as an in-house counsel in private, public, or non-profit companies, institutions or organisations. Please note that in-house counsel who are at the same time active as fee-earning lawyers or consultants are not eligible to the discounted in-house counsel fee.

The personal data that you communicate to us shall be processed by the Iternational Association Of Young Lawyers (AIJA), with its registered office at Avenue de Tervueren 231, 1150 Brussels, Belgium (Tel: +32 2 347 33 34 - office@aija.com), in accordance with Act No. 78-17 of January 6, 1978 relating to data, files and freedoms and Regulation No. 2016/679 on data protection, as of its entry into force on May 25, 2018.
Your data will be managed by AIJA's General Services, Events and Accounts Section:
- For the purpose of administering your registration for the event and your on-site access to the event;
- In order to pay for the selected services - your bank details will be deleted after receipt of your payment;
- In order to communicate information messages from AIJA.
To the extent necessary for the execution of their respective tasks, our subcontractors in charge of our seminar organisation, our IT infrastructure, our management, the production and maintenance of our website and extranet, are likely to gain access to your data from time to time. Their servers are located in the European Union.
Data relating to your participation in the event shall be stored for a period of 10 years. We are obliged to archive billing data until the end of the period required for our tax and accounting obligations, i.e. for 7 full tax years.
We shall store your contact information to keep you informed until you ask us to stop. You have the right to access your data and have it corrected if necessary.
