Walter Blackburn is a world-class expert in presentations and presentations training. He’s worked with both beginners and advanced speakers around the world for over 40 years. Once a poor speaker himself, Walter understands how hard it can seem to become a good speaker. Over his time as an international trainer he has developed an approach that will have anyone speaking well and confidently in a matter of minutes. His philosophy is that people struggle with public speaking and presentations when they ‘don’t know what to say and they don’t know how to say it’. If they knew that, and set aside some time to practise, they would be far less nervous and far more confident.

AIJA SCILL commission invites you to participate in interactive coaching sessions and workshops during the Luxembourg Half-Year Conference, where we will delve into the theme of "Empowering Global Success: Unleashing the Potential of International Structures in a Heavily Regulated World." These workshops are designed to empower you with valuable insights and practical skills.

Understanding Other People – Create Stronger Relationships
Psychologists tell us that up to 40% of the people we meet may neither like nor understand us. And, equally, we won’t either like or understand 40% of the people we meet. Of course this can have an impact on our lives, both professionally and personally.
As humans we are all different, with different mixes of emotions and drivers. But understanding how and why an individual is different from us, and how to manage that difference is a skill, and this ability can be developed in a shorter time than you might imagine.
Empathy Styles is a unique approach to understanding the way people are and the way they behave. It’s a technique that allows us to ‘read’ someone’s emotional differences very quickly and then to create a relationship strategy with that person, that works for both parties.
This ability is invaluable in dealing with clients, colleagues, friends and family.
The Empathy Styles approach can be learnt in a matter of minutes. For many people who’ve experienced this approach it has changed forever the way they see other people, and how they deal with them. This also affects our Emotional Intelligence – our ability to understand and live with ourselves and others more harmoniously.
Join Walter in this fascinating exploration of how and why people are different and how we can manage those differences, for everyone’s benefit.

I am a certified personal and professional coach (PCC) and has been coaching for the past 8 years. Before becoming a coach, I spent 15 years in working in telecoms, in start-ups and multi-nationals, from individual contributor to senior leadership. Over the past 25 years I lived and worked in different countries, changed careers, built a business, went through a difficult end of a relationship, experienced major challenges at work, and more. As a coach, I have more than 1600 hours experience. I create real partnerships with my clients on their journeys of discovery and growth. I bring what I consider to be the best aspects of many different tools, styles and methods to his coaching. I work with clients from many backgrounds, with many different reasons for coming to coaching; from private individuals, to teams, to founders and CEOs. I ask that my clients show up openly and honestly, and see every moment as a chance to stretch and grow. I love an adventure, and being out in nature. As well as coaching, I work as a hiking guide, and enjoy mountain biking and sleeping out under the stars in my spare time. Every year I will attend silent meditation retreats with one of my teachers, and often a Vision Quest to reset and reconnect. I also have a meditation, QiGong, and nature connection practice which helps me to stay balanced, centred, and joyful in my life and work. |

Finding practical ways to support your wellbeing
We all know that looking after our wellbeing is important (or at least I hope we do). However the reality of working in a busy law career is that there often isn’t space and permission to take the time you really need to stay on top of your mental, emotional and physical wellbeing.
This series of workshops will focus on identifying what specifically you need most in terms of looking after yourself, and bringing more of a sense of balance to your work and life. Tom will introduce some simple models to keep track of your own balance, as well as simple concepts to keep in mind to motivate you to spend just a little more time on your wellbeing. The workshops will also give you a chance to reflect and discuss with others what your realistic goals might be, and how to overcome the obstacles to achieving those goals.
Duration: 75min
