Event Overview

The Real Estate and Public Procurement Law Commissions have joined forces to organise a seminar in Antwerp which will deep dive into the current trends in setting up and executing public real estate and construction projects.

The academic programme will be covering a variety of topics such as setting up a PPP, the application of public procurement rules to traditional real estate transactions, the use of international standard construction contracts in a public context, the impact of ESG award criteria,… and will bring you insights from practitioners from all relevant fields of law: public procurement, real estate and construction to spark the interest of both transactional lawyers, public procurement devotees as well as those specialised in construction law.

Antwerp is currently home to one of the most ambitious public infrastructure projects of the century in Europe: the Oosterweel Link. This transformative initiative aims to significantly improve traffic flow and connectivity around the city of Antwerp, ultimately enhancing the quality of life for residents and visitors alike. Next to that, it is also known for Blue Gate Antwerp, a leading public-private project that takes the future into its own hands. This climate neutral business park is reserved for innovative companies with a well-defined ambition: linear growth through circular operations.

With investments in infrastructure that prioritise sustainability and community engagement, Antwerp is poised to set a benchmark for urban development in the 21st century and therefore the perfect host for our seminar.

Antwerp is not only a captivating destination because of its innovative construction projects but is also steeped in a rich history that dates back to the Middle Ages. Its stunning Cathedral of Our Lady, a UNESCO World Heritage site, showcases Gothic architecture and houses masterpieces by the famous painter Rubens. The historic Grote Markt, adorned with ornate guild houses, reflects the city’s prosperous trading past, while vibrant neighborhoods like Zurenborg offer a glimpse into Antwerp’s Art Nouveau heritage. As a global center for diamonds, the city boasts a thriving diamond district, where visitors can explore the fascinating history and craftsmanship behind these precious gems. The MAS (Museum aan de Stroom) further enriches the experience, intertwining Antwerp’s maritime history and contemporary narratives within its architecturally striking walls. Culinary delights abound in Antwerp, making it a true feast for the senses. Indulge in the city’s exquisite chocolate, with numerous artisanal chocolatiers crafting delectable treats that celebrate Belgian tradition. Additionally, Antwerp’s diverse culinary scene features everything from classic Flemish dishes to international cuisine, allowing visitors to enjoy a vibrant gastronomic experience.

“The charm of Antwerp lies in its ability to surprise and delight at every turn.” – David Hockney
