Who we are
The Litigation Commission focuses on all aspects of dispute resolution before state courts and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) methods such as conciliation, mediation, expert determinations, and arbitrator opinions. Our members consist of litigators from across the globe, coming together to explore both the theory and practice of litigation in various jurisdictions while networking at events held in the Americas, Asia, Africa, and Europe.
Our events cover a wide range of procedural topics, including jurisdictional and procedural requirements, class actions, group actions, and other forms of collective legal protection. We also focus on strategies for effectively managing cross-border disputes. In addition to procedural matters, our events span multiple substantive legal areas such as commercial litigation, private client disputes (family, trust, and inheritance law), employment, construction, intellectual property and patent litigation, antitrust, contentious insolvency, public and administrative law including banking and regulatory disputes, as well as civil cases involving fraud and white-collar crime.
We provide our members with opportunities to master their advocacy skills, such as negotiation, witness examination, and the art of delivering persuasive written and oral arguments. Additionally, we explore the latest technologies that enhance litigation practice, ensuring members are equipped to be effective and successful advocates.
The Litigation Commission hosts several events each year, often collaborating with other AIJA Commissions and external partners to create interdisciplinary programs or delve into specific areas of law. Members also have the unique opportunity to engage with external speakers, including experienced judges, in-house counsel, and service providers (litigation funders, technical experts, software providers etc.), who share insights on dispute resolution.
We are prominently featured in the academic program of the AIJA Annual Congress and Half Year Conferences, where members are encouraged to attend Litigation Commission sessions and learn about opportunities as well as connect with other practitioners at our meetings.
Since 2022, we have proudly launched our own flagship event, the Annual Litigation Conference, which offers an in-depth exploration of litigation matters over two days. This highly sought-after event typically sells out quickly. In addition to our flagship conference, we host specialized seminars on specific topics.
Moreover, members can share their publications, professional achievements, and announcements through the Litigation Commission Newsletter, which reaches over 1,000 members. The newsletter is published two to four times a year.
Members also benefit from access to our dedicated WhatsApp group, providing real-time updates on events and other commission-related news and professional referrals.
